Natural Dimensions were commissioned to produce a highly detailed townscape and visual impact assessment for a proposed tall hotel building within the protected Liverpool Docks World Heritage Site Buffer Zone facing the famous waterfront.
Liverpool City Council have approved plans for the building after Natural Dimensions successfully demonstrated that the hotel building would fit with its surrounding urban context through expert analysis of surrounding urban character and a thorough understanding of the unique features which makes the Liverpool docks such a special place. The townscape assessment was conducted through extensive site surveys, data gathering and analysis based on a wealth of townscape analysis experience.
The visual impact of the building was determined through analysis of thirteen separate viewpoints from various distances, elevations and view types to provide a full picture of the impact of the new feature on the sensitive dockland skyline.
This was a very rewarding and fascinating project in a niche skill sector. Natural Dimensions were involved in extensive planning and design discussions with Liverpool City Council and provided excellent support to the client team. The success of the application in such a sensitive area is testament to the expertise used in producing the TVIA report. The project is a wonderful addition to the exciting development of the historic waterfront and will support and complement the various uses and projects proposed.
