Intro

Lying in close proximity to Pennington Flash and Lyme and Wood Pits country park, the landscape of this 130 plot residential development provides an extension to the semi rural character of its setting and responds to the existing great crested newt habitat and substantial woodland.

The Design

Natural Dimensions were lead landscape and ecology masterplanners for the residential development to determine suitable positions for amenity space, woodland, replacement newt habitat, detention ponds, cycleways and play areas. Detailed landscape and planting plans for all amenity space, habitats and garden plots were produced. Natural Dimensions also designed play areas and produced landscape management plans.
The residential development designs divided the development into two parcels to break up the building mass with green space. Planting and ecological enhancements included new collections of native woodland specimens, substantial hedgerows, wetland marginal and aquatic species, and wildflower / long grass seeding. Planting around drainage detention ponds and a chain of replacement newt ponds integrated habitat into the scheme. The scheme has been implemented in phases over the last three years and the anecdotal evidence from the residents is that they love the nearby natural setting to the housing and the soothing effect of the views.
