New low carbon biophilic school in Merstham prepares for opening

The new Merstham Park Secondary School is preparing to welcome its first year of students as it nears completion. The low carbon school is a pathfinder project using extensive arrays of solar panels, air source heat pumps, high level insulation, warm air re circulation, and rain water harvesting. The externals are designed according to biophilic principles to provide a sensory green embrace of nature around the building creating a sequence of attractive social spaces and habitats. The first phase of the planting at the school frontage is complete with phase 2 planting, for the school courtyard, orchard and woodland areas, taking place later in the year.
