Natural Dimensions are delighted to announce that we have been appointed for RIBA stage 2 redesign work for the Carlisle Market Square and Greenmarket, along with stage 3 detailed design and stage 4 technical design.

Cumberland Council is embarking on a transformative journey to rejuvenate the heart of Carlisle. With a focus on Greenmarket and Market Square, we aim to breathe new life into these spaces, making them lively hubs for residents and visitors alike. The Greenmarket and Market Square of Carlisle have a significant history dating back over a century and are culturally rooted into the daily life of citizens. Their historic features and buildings serve as a valuable backdrop to the central shopping destination and are also an ideal destination for the burgeoning local market.

Our design prioritizes enhancing pedestrian access, increasing green spaces, improving the outdoor experience, introducing enhanced seating, creating a stage for performances, reducing vehicle movements, and improving the paving and floorscape. The activities supported through the design are seasonal activities such as Christmas markets, summer fairs, local or special pop-up markets, a space for live music, staged events, street performances and parades. Through this transformation, the city will get a major boost and create a central platform for a diverse and thriving community.
